Why this app exists
When someone is involved in litigation, their attorney often needs specific medical records to evaluate or support the case. Historically, that has meant paper record requests, fax forms, and weeks of waiting. MyMedRecords lets a patient securely authorize the release of specific portions of their electronic health record directly from their healthcare provider, for use in that one legal matter — without sharing portal login credentials with anyone.
What the app does
MyMedRecords connects to a patient's healthcare provider using Epic's FHIR-based Patient Access interfaces (SMART on FHIR / OAuth 2.0). After a patient logs into their own provider's patient portal and reviews exactly what is being requested, they can grant MyMedRecords Medical Records Portal limited, revocable access to specified categories of their health record. Strategic Litigation Partner LP then makes that information available to the law firm handling the patient's matter.
Patient-controlled
Access is granted by the patient through their provider's own login screen, never through this app directly.
Purpose-limited
Records are used only for the specific litigation matter identified to the patient at authorization.
Revocable
Patients can revoke access at any time through their provider's portal.
Not a law firm
Strategic Litigation Partner LP provides litigation support services and does not provide legal advice or representation.
What information is requested
Depending on the matter, MyMedRecords may request access to:
- Medical history, conditions, and problem list
- Medications and allergies
- Immunizations
- Laboratory and diagnostic test results
- Procedures and encounter/visit records
- Clinical notes, where made available by the provider
A patient always sees the specific categories being requested on their provider's own authorization screen before granting access, and can decline to proceed.
Who uses this app
This app is intended for use by individuals who have been asked by their attorney, or by a party to a pending or anticipated legal matter, to authorize release of their health records for that specific matter. It is not intended for general public use outside of an active litigation context.
